Re: Chance the Rapper
Yeah this is some solid stuff. Rare to hear a young cat who developed his own style. Guaranteed we're gonna start hearing kids that sound just like him.
Re: Chance the Rapper
Ive listened to it probably 5 times now and it just gets better. This is the best shit I've heard since Kendrick's album. Dude is still super young too. Dudes gonna own this summer, especially after his set at Lollapalooza.
Still can't get over how dope Bronson's verse on NaNa though "I rep the east coast, got a team of hoes like Pat Summit/ I look like Arnold Swarzenegger in a black hummer"

Re: Chance the Rapper
tape is good. his rhymes and styles are interesting, he can rap and he got good beats and all, but i get the impression he wanna be like childish gambino or kendrick too much. but it feels like more i listen to tape, more i like it, i catch all new shit with every spin. bronsons verse might be best i've heard him ever

Re: Chance the Rapper
I definitely heard a little bit of kendrick. not biting by any stretch, but it's there.

dude is super talented but the influence is undeniable.
Re: Chance the Rapper
Not really sure what exactly is making you think that. I think if anything he reminds me of a young Eminem at times.

Re: Chance the Rapper
have you really listened to either kendrick or gambino?
there's similarities in delivery that seem very obvious to me. Thing is, Chance is capable of many different styles so its not that he sounds like anyone else the majority of the time, but at times i can clearly hear influence from kendrick and i dont think its a bad thing at all. the gambino thing to me is a vocal register thing that happens occasionally. i also hear influence from eminem, twista, and kanye.

Acid Rap is probably the best thing I've heard all year. Dude sounds like Young Thug if Young Thug grew up above a blues bar with only Organized Konfusion records. I am a fan.

I've probably listened to it over 10 times all the way through now. So fucking good.

Re: Chance the Rapper
I remember him being one of several dudes who sounded a lot like Lil Wayne on the Tree Ft. The City tape. While I haven't listened to the new release yet, this bevy of comparisons to other rappers can't be a good sign. That said, I know that this is what we (and the rest of the rap blogosphere) tend to do, so I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Re: Chance the Rapper
I had my mind made up that he sounded a lot like Lil Wayne when I first heard him. Having listened to the album, my mind has not changed. Nor has his voice. That said, I'd take this over any recent Lil Wayne release.

Re: Chance the Rapper
Not really a fan of the mixtape but the kid's bars and stylings are outstanding.
Wish he'd sing a bit less and rap in his normal voice more often (like the first 1:00 of "That's Love" or the track "Brain Cells"). I realize I'm probably in the minority here, tho.
