Cause you're a middling underground rapper, and he interviews mostly comedians and/or fairly famous musicians?mike eagle wrote:jamrage wrote:Wow, that's obviously a huge deal, and I feel like an asshole for saying this, but.....why you?

Here are the last five people he interviewed for example:
Iggy Pop
Cheech and Chong
David Sedaris
Nick Cave
Douglas Rushkoff
Jonah Hill
I know I'm being a dick here, but this is a monster interview for you. Honestly though, I hope it went well and I'll be sure to give it a download.

Re: Podcasts Recommendations
Well he's never had a rapper on. With a handful of exceptions, rappers are painful to listen to in interviews. Mike's probably on of the handfuls.
Plus, he's done shit at UCB and was on Paul Gilmartins podcast so he obviously has some connection to the comedy scene.
It could also just be good management/booking on Mikes part.
Why is not important really. Congratulate the man and leave it at that.

Re: Podcasts Recommendations
not sure what you mean by middling. to be clear, i certainly know im not as famous as those people but im sure in 400+ episodes he's had some folks on that you might not have been familiar with beforehand.jamrage wrote:Cause you're a middling underground rapper, and he interviews mostly comedians and/or fairly famous musicians?mike eagle wrote:jamrage wrote:Wow, that's obviously a huge deal, and I feel like an asshole for saying this, but.....why you?

take a guy like colt cabnana, of course there's hundreds of other pro wrestlers that are more well-known than colt that he could have had on, i think maron's more interested in the indie side of whatever industry he might be discussing. and like harry says, ive done shows with folks like paul f. tompkins, eric andre, matt besser, hannibal, and lots of stuff at ucb so im prolly a little more known in the comedy world than most indie rap guys.
i do think its very big for me, but i also think it makes sense on some levels
Re: Podcasts Recommendations
Point well taken. I didn't know about the UCB connection so this makes a whole lot more sense now too. Regardless, I hope it leads to something bigger for you.mike eagle wrote:not sure what you mean by middling. to be clear, i certainly know im not as famous as those people but im sure in 400+ episodes he's had some folks on that you might not have been familiar with beforehand.jamrage wrote:Cause you're a middling underground rapper, and he interviews mostly comedians and/or fairly famous musicians?mike eagle wrote:jamrage wrote:Wow, that's obviously a huge deal, and I feel like an asshole for saying this, but.....why you?

Good pod, Mike. I dont think Maron was very good in the episode, but it was still an interesting and fun listen.

Re: Podcasts Recommendations
Yeah, Maron was completely out of his element which didn't help the interview much. Not the worst episode ever, about what I expected.

Re: Podcasts Recommendations
I fuck with his podcasts pretty regularly and thought it was a great interview.
Doesnt really matter that Maron doesnt know shit about hip hop, I thought it made it a little more personal.
You dont have to like Maron but the dude is pretty undeniable at what he does best, which is interviewing people.
Nice job Mike.

Re: Podcasts Recommendations
i don't really remember tbh, probably thought about wanting to grow up and make money soon and thinking advertisers probably hate rap names. guess i'm just used to typing my real name when things ask who the author / owner is.
glad you checked it out though. the latest one with block was a lot fun and we shout out the site a couple times (including the porn thread).
reason, you're a battle head right? you might like Ep.11 with my buddy Kyle Gray (avocado) there's a lot of insider stuff about Grindtime and KOTD because he has been filming a ton of the battle stuff on youtube for years now.
also, there's a youtube channel to compliment the show: http://youtube.com/thatskindaneat
end promo bot.
