We had no business winning this game and we won. I can sleep peacefully. Molina righted his wrong. Baseball karma. All that jazz.

For 12 (Pitt) you could make a very good argument to sub Burnett who is 36 for Francisco Liriano who is just 29. Not to mention is just a way better pitcher this year.

1 for me. Verlander bounces back and Mad Max is the nastiest pitcher in the league. Sanchez is one of the better #3's in the game.

Yeah, Pitt was one of the harder decisions to make because I was torn between Liriano and Burnett. But if selecting Liriano turns the tide in favor of the Pirates for you, then go right ahead. The Cardinals were also difficult because I didn't know whether to select Martinez, Lance Lynn or Michael Wacha. I ultimately chose Martinez because he has the highest upside. And it was difficult to choose between Iwakuma or Danny Hultzen for the Mariners. Pretty much, this is thrown together quickly with the least amount of thought, and anyone should feel free to make a case for why one pitcher should be substituted for another.

I watched a little bit of the game. Donating to the victims fund was a nice gesture, but how many of the other teams wore the patch this season?
If they all did, then I take back my criticism. But the Giants are probably the most shrewd marketers in the big leagues, everything they do is calculated.

I know the Royals wore it because they were the first team the Sox played after the bombing. I dont watch many BoSox games tho because they are faggots so I'm not sure how common it is for the opposing team to wear one.

A conversation about the Phillies on the Jonah Keri podcast got me thinking today: would Phillies have been alright with letting Chase Utley go sign elsewhere this offseason, if that meant the team would have been able to go sign Robinson Cano instead?

This Cano talk is ridiculous. He isn't leaving New York. He knows it. Jay-Z knows it. Most New Yorkers know it.

Cano is without a doubt the best overall 2B but will demand crazy crazy money north of 25M per year. He is 30, which means in Dominican years he is really 32-33. He will be a top 2B for at least another 2 more seasons before becoming a converted OF a'la Soriano.

Utley was resigned for the same reason Jeter was resigned as a Yankee. For 15M he is worth it in market value.

I know its a ridiculous question. It's not based in reality. It's an interesting hypothetical though. So, operating under that premise, what do you say?

It's a silly premise because the Phillies aren't spending another $100M into a player now. But say they had money and could, well sure. Who wouldn't want Cano? I think Cano is leaving his prime years though.

We could spend all day talking about why the concept is nutty. But what I am trying to gauge is how receptive Phillies fans would be to sacrificing the beloved face of the franchise, who is still productive and signed to a fair contract for a better player who is less identifiable, and will cost much more plus be signed for multiple years past his prime.

Riding with the Pirates. AJ Burnett for World Series MVP bro.

More realistically, Detroit/Atlanta. I have a feeling LA will kind of fizzle out in the playoffs.

According to a list compiled by Jeff Sullivan, this is the least hittable pitch in 2013:

Image
Numbers were compiled from Brooks Baseball and from the Baseball Prospectus PITCHf/x leaderboards. I combined all individual pitches thrown by both starters and relievers, then I eliminated all those that hadn’t yet been swung at by hitters at least 50 times. So, the numbers you see below come with a 50-swing minimum, which is arbitrary but good enough for me. Contact rate is simply contact over swings, or if you prefer, non-whiffs over swings. Against all pitches, hitters generally make contact about four out of every five times they offer.

Now then, the most unhittable pitches of 2013 through August 20:

1. Danny Farquhar curveball, 32.7% contact
2. Jordan Walden slider, 39.4%
3. Aroldis Chapman slider, 44.3%
4. Pedro Strop slider, 44.3%
5. Josh Outman slider, 44.9%
6. Aaron Loup changeup, 44.9%
7. Patrick Corbin slider, 45.1%
8. Boone Logan slider, 45.5%
9. A.J. Ramos changeup, 46.2%
10. Phil Coke changeup, 46.3%

As you’d expect, we don’t see any fastballs, seeing instead a bunch of put-away pitches thrown for the very purpose of making batters miss. There are six sliders, three changeups, and a curveball, and the curveball in the lead is in the lead by a bunch. You’ll also notice that there are nine relievers and one starter, with Corbin’s slider leading the way among guys who see the first inning. Relievers tend to get more whiffs, because relievers want to get more whiffs. Starters try to be more efficient, which makes Corbin’s slider all the more remarkable.

He's a real piece of shit. Trade him in the offseason for a new groundskeeper and put Colome or Odorizzi or the ghost of Rolando Arrojo in his spot.
