Really surprised that Tom Hanks wasn't nominated and neither was the makeup/hairstylist for American Hustle.

Hair/makeup was one of the few things American Hustle deserved. It looks like it's positioned to take the mantle of this years WTF best picture winner and enter the WTF Hall of Fame with Crash, Argo, King's Speech.

Curious as to who you think is the deserving best picture winner?

There wasn't one flawless non-doc this year, but I'd be fine with either 12 years or Wolf.

Cate got hers locked. I would like Bale to win but now I think Matty Mick has this.

I really liked American Hustle.
I feel like Wolf had 2 superfluous scenes that would have made the movie shorter and more enjoyable for me.

Re: 2014 Oscars Thread
jonah hill was good but don't think he deserved a nomination. dallas buyers club was a good movie but not worthy of a best picture nomination. haven't seen llewyn davis yet but i'm hoping after i do i can say that it got snubbed
Re: 2014 Oscars Thread
I really don't want to break it to everyone because I feel like a bunch of film snobs would be quick to atta---ah, fuck it. Inside Llewyn Davis was lazy writing, a metaphor of its subject matter wrapped in amazing cinematography, decent acting, and a complete lack of a plot.samdoom wrote:jonah hill was good but don't think he deserved a nomination. dallas buyers club was a good movie but not worthy of a best picture nomination. haven't seen llewyn davis yet but i'm hoping after i do i can say that it got snubbed
Just confused as to why its gotten so much love, I suppose. Coen brothers are allowed to make movies that aren't no country.
I'm rooting for jonah hill but I still have to see wolf of wall street.

Can't believe how many people ride for The Wolf of Wall Street when he doesn't even turn into a werewolf. If DiCaprio was so good, how come he wasn't a wolfman?

Re: 2014 Oscars Thread
12 Years A Slave is a new level of reality
plus it had a bonafied fucking cameo in it
it should win alone off that... or the fact that it's a movie that is so real, it feels like a documentary made in early American Hell
Lupita Nyong’o also deserves

Jonah hill was amazing in WWS. I'd be cool with him winning. And J-Law deserves a nod too. She stole every scene she was in in that movie.

Re: 2014 Oscars Thread
He was enjoyable, kinda relateble, funny and played the part well. He is your preference but I don't know if I would use amazing to describe his performance. Leto, Fassbender or Adbi are probably more serving but amazing might be reserved for just those dudes IMO.Blockhead wrote:Jonah hill was amazing in WWS. I'd be cool with him winning. Agree about J-Law, she killed it. 2nd best thing of the movie right after Bale's hairdo.
Re: 2014 Oscars Thread
I mean, he was hilarious in it...to me , a performance like that is amazing. Maybe not in the same "actory" way as those other dudes (admittedly, I haven't seen all the movies), but he was great.

That's sad.
I need to watch Dallas before I can accurately judge. But I agree that hill did kill that role.

Re: 2014 Oscars Thread
Just saw "Captain Phillips", and wasn't that blown away by Hanks. Thought it was much more about the Somalis as the movie progressed, and Hanks took a back seat in every sense. He deserved a nomination I suppose, but he obviously wasn't beating Bale, Ejiofor, or McConaughey this year.
Would definitely have given Greengrass the nod over Scorsese.
Glad to see "Dirty Wars" get the nod at documentary. Jeremy Scahill is that dude.

I don't know how anyone can front on Lawrence in that movie. Even if you didn't like the movie...she really stood out (and not just cause I want to fill her with penis).Req wrote:lol@ Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams getting nominations. Horrible choices.
