maybe it got better soundquality - that's what we hoping for...I d divide it myself...no need though because the album is dope
Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
Ha, you think my nth generation tape rip might have better quality? It's not bad as far as dubs go, but that's not likely.Stieflkater wrote:maybe it got better soundquality - that's what we hoping for...I d divide it myself...no need though because the album is dope
I'm 99 pct sure that I had this tape before the CD re-release (but after ruffs+rares); but I don't think it's any different than the rerelease (apart from side a / b swapped and missing contact blitz)
Looking on discogs the tape tracklist is exactly the same anyway.
Anyway, it's uploading right now a couple formats to analyze and play with.
Also, here's the aesoprock:

THX
mixing is better than on what DOOM released from first impression / more umph - too bad it's xth Generation plus Contact Blitz and Gimme is missing...also never heard the moaning in the background of What A Niggy Know when Doom raps about the Kitty. To go back a little further, I've read about people getting tapes of KMD's Bl_ck B_st_rds around 94 or 95 in the UK from a guy that claimed to work for Elektra/Warner, along with other people having underground copies, and that these copies sounded a lot better than the version Doom officially released.
Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
I had no problems with the 2001 Subverse release. The 2008 Metal Face version sounded muddy as hell though.

I was refering to the Subverse one. Think vocals and adlibs / effects was kinda low...like I stated never caught the moaning on What...gotta check the VLS now...

Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
I can't remember all the details at the moment but the skits are different. The first one doesn't have Redman but does have NaS, the one with Q-Tip has Wyclef instead of Peter Gunz (and there's another one with Wyclef and Slick Rick talking), Fresh with Jermaine Dupri is on there (from Jermaine's '98 LP), Unify with Snoop is different, I Own America Part II is different, I think I Sparkle might've made it on the promo as well. And it's missing the Outro, We Turn It On bonus track and live versions of La Di Da Di and The Show.madstadik wrote:Is that Slick Rick different than the retail?

Regarding the tape someone posted a link to on discogs, someone bought it off ebay already?

Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
Okay, here's a nutty one... anyone got the unmastered version of Kool Keith's Black Elvis album that leaked before its release? I remember it might have been more than unmastered, maybe even unmixed. There were some weird background vocals, courtesy of Keith, on Master Of The Game that weren't on the album mixes. Release Date was also the first track on it, with the Intro appearing after it. As dumb as that sounds, Rolling Stone reviewed that version back in the day and mentioned it, even talking about Release Date despite it not appearing on the retail version.

I remember a version of "Prince Among Thieves" with all these farm animal noises to mark it as a promo

Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
For those curious about the Slick Rick advance, here`s a lil` write up as well as a track list...
Right away you`ll notice that the first track "Jail Skit" doesn`t feature Redman like the retail`s version, but instead features Nas & there`s also someone else who I can`t put my finger on at the moment, but he`s after Rev. Run & just before Nas (school me y`all). Track 6, the "Bugsy Radio [Skit]" is a lil` different as well. If you listen closely the background music is the beginning of "Unify", that`s not the case on the retail. Track 12 features Q-Tip & Wyclef unlike the retail`s version that has Q-Tip & Peter Gunz. You`ll also notice that the track "Fresh" featuring J.D. (originally released on J.D`s 1998 album "Life In 1472") is included...
Then there`s the "Rick & Wyclef [Skit]" that appears just before "Memories". Wyclef welcomes Slick Rick home (from jail) & asks Rick to drop that "Memories" joint & tells folks not to bootleg Rick`s music....LoL, "Unify" with Snoop Dogg sounds more like a freestyled version of the track that`s on the retail release. Track 21 "I Sparkle" doesn`t appear on the retail version, I believe that the track was release on a 12" though. The version of "I Own America Part 2" is also a lil` bit different than the retail version, this one has a woman signing all thru the track. Gotta say that I prefer the one that`s on the retail album. The only other difference between the Advance & the Retail is that the Advance version doesn`t have the "CEO Outro" & the retail bonus tracks; "We Turn It On", "La Di Da Di [Live]" or "The Show [Live]". So there y`all have it, now check it out & enjoy...

Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
Farm noises? That's, uh, weird... yeah, if there was ever a way to mark your promo, that one sticks out. Kinda like the version of The Shining with all the movie samples throughout it. I know it was supposed to prevent people from sharing it, even though it didn't, but it actually made it harder to listen to. Never bothered to check it out until the retail version came out. The Donuts advance had that computer voice mentioning what it was and interrupting every once in a while, similar to the Madvillain advance, and it was annoying because the track would completely stop, but at least it didn't happen too often.bignormy wrote:I remember a version of "Prince Among Thieves" with all these farm animal noises to mark it as a promo

No it was definitely Prince Among Thieves. I remember another odd difference was More Than U Know was missing a final Trugoy verse which was present on an earlier leak of that song, and was present again on the retail. Anyway I do think he's done the barnyard stamp on other releases as well.madstadik wrote:That may be the rip w the barnyard noises. Whats was diff about it?Code: Select all

Maybe I can dig up the tape I dubbed sometime, it's probably buried somewhere. It's nothing more than a funny curiosity though, I won't be able to find it anytime soon.
Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
Paul used barnyard sounds to censor himself on his answering machine skit on Buhloone Mindstate.
Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
There is also a promo version of Brand Nubian's "The Foundation" album that has barnyard noises on it.
It's as amazing as you'd imagine it to be.

Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
i have a few of those on vinyl(nas and mobb deep had a few of their tracks issued on vinyl prior to the albums), bought the jay z/r kelly advance on cd at a rim store back in February of 2002. there are differences in a few songs, but i haven't listened to either the album version or advance in years to tell u right now. if i'm correct, I think the Nas album was going to be a double album, but so many tracks leaked like "stay scheming", "belly button window", and "blaze a 50" that he just made it 1 disc. this is known though
Re: Old Bootleg Tapes and Sources
there's been a few rumors about this one. The label let that info out that since it was so heavily bootlegged that they decided to just not release certain things but the more plausible sounding rumor, imo, is that they wanted 2 albums back to back from Nas at that time cause it would make them more money and some other labels and artists were doing so. i could be wrong though.dustyhands wrote:if i'm correct, I think the Nas album was going to be a double album, but so many tracks leaked like "stay scheming", "belly button window", and "blaze a 50" that he just made it 1 disc. this is known though
