The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

JAR JAR BINKS
the plot of the movie is that elderly Han Solo is a super grumpy retired dude and elderly Jar Jar Binks moves in next door and they get into Matthau/Lemon comedic situations

Would rather watch this than any of the prequels actually
No need to start a thread, but who's watched them in machete order? If you haven't heard of it, google "Star Wars machete order" and the first hit should clear it up. I really have no plans this weekend so I may give it a try

Darth Maul is one of the best things about the prequels, smh@removing him completely.
He's completely one-note and not remotely memorable besides the lightsaber and the makeup. One of the best designed bad guys of the prequels, sure, but not remotely interesting and he goes out like a complete bitch.
Might give the Machete order thing a shot too. I've been meaning to rewatch the OG trilogy and I could tolerate ep II/III again.

Machete Order doesn't work. By omitting The Phantom Menace you're creating more loose ends such as references to Qui-Gon Jinn and the immaculate conception.
Besides, you would also lose the set up to the greatest running gag in the entire Star Wars franchise: How annoying clown Jar Jar Binks entered politics, whose vote kicked off The Clone Wars and subsequently led to the formation of the Empire.
Billions dead because of the Gungan equivalent of Mindbender.

yea and he's one of the leads too
Is he really? also, i haven't really been following up on how production is going. will the story for episode vii follow closely the story that's already been laid out in the myriad star wars books that have gotten published?

Clone Wars are better than all the movies combined. You'll get your Maul fix there.

Only the movies are considered cannon. The next three movies aren't necessarily going to follow the books.
