Re: World Cup '14 - Official Thread
This is a little off-topic but why am I reading that Gonzalo Higuain is getting sold to Barca?

Here's the Spanish source but it's been picked up by other English sources:

Yeah, yeah, Marca, I know. Plus Napoli has denied it but still.

Re: World Cup '14 - Official Thread
Messi needs a 9 to operate in front of him to open up space. The False 9 has meant that he's now being "boxed in" by the two central defenders and two holding midfielders. He links up well with Higuain so there you go. Would be a good signing IMO.
And if I were a betting man Italy looks good at those odds.

Re: World Cup '14 - Official Thread
Have you seen Barca play at all in the past few seasons? Messi absolutely obliterates as a false nine, he does not need a sole striker in front of him. Against some opposition maybe, but he is skilled enough to make runs from deep and get into finishing positions.Stoned Starks wrote:Messi needs a 9 to operate in front of him to open up space. Still coasting, bro! Would have loved to seen Faux-Ajax (Denmark) at the WC, but sadly you didn't qualify.Comedy Quaddafi wrote:Who gives a shit, dude? Your country just beat Spain 5-1.

Not sure if you knew, but we actually finished second in our group but couldn't qualify because we were the "worst secondplaced team". Only because Italy equalised against us in OT in the last match. But be careful what you wish for, we beat you last time around.
And that pic means I'm a lucky motherfucker.

Expect the cameras to be all over frau Merkel when/if Germany score. And expect to see it again and again and again.

Did not know that. That scenario sucks. I'm not that mad though, as our Danes are currently enjoying a long vacation and can start relatively fresh in the '15 campaign.Comedy Quaddafi wrote:Not sure if you knew, but we actually finished second in our group but couldn't qualify because we were the "worst secondplaced team". How much does Pepe being suspended help the USA's chances against Portugal?

Re: World Cup '14 - Official Thread
Not a lot - the chances of getting a player sent off early had decreased. A lot.Jayou Ayen wrote:How much does Pepe being suspended help the USA's chances against Portugal?

Pepe is in there more for experience than quality at this point.
The loss of Coentrao is more significant.

Re: World Cup '14 - Official Thread
have always said Dempsey is the best American player of all time. Never understood the hype over Donovan. Yes, he's good, but Dempsey has consistently performed at an EPL level.

Better than Howard? I know it might be tough to compare across positions, but still, as an ignorant American, I was under the impression that he was bestReq wrote:have always said Dempsey is the best American player of all time.

America are solid as fuck historically at that position though: Howard, Keller, Friedel.... Howard might not even be the best of those three now that I think of it...
