I don't think Vince is going blind. He's in his 70s and it's the start of allergy season in Canada. Given there was nothing of the sort happening with all he did Mania weekend a month ago, I think it's a weird night.

The comments regarding that particular gif suggest it was taken out of context, and it was a playful jab at Brock's "Stevie Wonder" glasses. Not to say there's nothing to the theory that Vince is having vision troubles, but I don't think there's enough out there to substantiate it. It's also possible that he had an operation of some kind done, and the impairment is temporary. Maybe he got caught up in the Daredevil hype and wanted to try it out himself. Who knows? It's an interesting theory, nonetheless.

I hope you're right. Would be pretty damn sad if it was true. As much as the IWC in 2015 gives him shit, losing Vince would be devastating for wrestling as a whole.BigCat8 wrote:The comments regarding that particular gif suggest it was taken out of context, and it was a playful jab at Brock's "Stevie Wonder" glasses. I'm still devastated from losing Verne Gagne last week. Imaging losing the two most important promoters in wrestling history in the same year.

It's not, but I was speaking on 2 different levels. 1 being blind would hinder Vince from continuing to work in wrestling, which is a visually driven industry. 2 just the thought of Vince having a serious condition impacted me, so I can only imagine how devastating it will be when he does eventually pass (he's not exactly young).Pizon wrote:I don't think going blind is generally a fatal condition.

I have nothing but love for Vince, dude is responsible for a lot of stuff I've loved in my life, but I think that him being unable to micromanage every aspect of the product would be a good thing. Look how much better NXT has been than the main show without his involvement, can you imagine if the same people ran Raw every week?

I agree, who has given us more entertainment in this world since we were kids than Vince? You gotta love the guy.907 wrote:Race Car Bed Sleeping Rapist Virgin wrote:I hope you're right. I understand what you are saying in theory, but keep in mind neither you nor I has ever watched or evaluated a WWE/WWF completely devoid of Vince. The guy has never taken time off for for an extended period of time for any reason. Not for family reasons, not for medical reasons, not even while being prosecuted by the government. He is the one constant wrestling has always had since the 70's. Could WWE be better creatively right now without Vince's influence, which could be seen as a bit out of touch? Sure it could. As you said NXT is an example of that. Don't forget though there is a whole other side to wrestling, the business side. Vince has managed to keep WWE very profitable throughout recent economic downturns, backlash from the Benoit murders, and waning interesting in wrestling in general. A WWE not run by Vince might not survive as well throughout all of that as it has.

I still haven't watched the E:60 feature, but I did want to comment on how awesome Xavier Woods is. Dude's personality is so over the top. Him responding to the "New... Day sucks!" chants with a broken-hearted "What did we do?!? We're winning!" was a highlight of an already awesome tag title match. The "Power of positivity, P.O.P., hold it down!" sneaky subtle nerd shit cracks me up every time.
Just saw this pre-New Day promo the other day. So ridiculous, but so good.
Subtle "Bacon or Beer Can?" from Kofi as well.

Backlund's autobiographer's take on the funeral incident:
--- Topic: Backlund interrupts Gagne's funeral ( Post #831003 )
Backlundcollector - May 10th, 2015 00:11 GMT
Edited by Backlundcollector on May 10th, 2015 00:14 GMT
Okay folks, just got off the phone with Bob, and here's the story straight from the horse's mouth.
Bob DID NOT cut a heel promo, or anything resembling that, at Verne's funeral. I'm not sure who came up with that story, but it is not accurate.
According to Bob, here's what actually happened.
Bob and everyone else in attendance sat quietly through the solemn, ceremonial part of the service. When that was over, the ministers announced that the "church service" was over, but that Gene Okurlund and Greg Gagne were going to speak - and that others might speak also. Mean Gene went first, and apparently gave some pretty awesome remarks that had people in the crowd laughing and cheering. Apparently it ended with Gene making a ring announcement and the people rising in a standing ovation. So this was not the ordinary somber church experience that you and I know.
Anyway, then Greg got up and gave a "eulogy" that was more of the same. At one point, Greg was talking about the WWF/E and his father's experiences with Vince Sr. and Vince Jr, and some of the stuff that he had read about that on the internet. At that point, Bob stood up, and said "Hey Greg - just wanted you to know that I'm here representing Vince McMahon and the WWE, and we all just wanted to pay our respects and express our condolences to you and to your family from everyone in the WWE."
That was it.
Greg thanked Bob, Bob sat down, and then Greg continued. According to Bob, the whole thing lasted about 15 seconds, and was done because Greg's remarks opened the door, and Bob wanted everyone in the building to understand that the WWE was paying its respects to Verne and the Gagne family.
When the service was over, Bob went up front, and he and Greg exchanged a hug and some pleasantries. There was no outrage, and no one was upset about what happened. While standing up and saying something in the middle of a church service might seem a little foreign to most of us, this was apparently not an ordinary church service, but a more loose and fun exchange, which, according to Bob, who had known Verne very well since all the way back to Bob's high school days, was "just how Verne would have liked it."
So anyway - it seems like someone has run a little fast and loose with things without understanding the full story. I wasn't there, but the accounting above is Bob's version of what happened - which he just shared with me on the phone. He was very concerned about anyone thinking that he had actually "disrupted" the funeral service of a man that he respected so much, and whose funeral he had traveled all the way back to Minnesota to attend.

Whole Raw was in Spanish for me. Very unenjoyable.
Re: CM Punk & Wrestling's Best Storyline in Years...
Yeah, Cena has been killing it (with the non Russev related stuff) for like a month now, it's gotten to the point that the open challenge is one of the best and most anticipated parts of the show every week. In a perfect world it would end with Kevin Owens showing up and beating him for the strap, then feuding with him over it for a while and coming out on top in the end. Cena will be fine, let him put someone over clean for once.

Raw was whatever, but Cena vs Neville was bonkers. Funny that LOLCENAWINS open challenge is my favorite thing in wrestling right now. Also, I'm happy that they are pushing Neville so hard right now, but "the new sensation" is lame. I dig the Man the Gravity Forgot, New Sensation sounds like a soda ad.
Re: CM Punk & Wrestling's Best Storyline in Years...
I mean, the guy has two fucking taglines. TWO. Just pick one, WWE. And he can be "The Man That Gravity Forgot, The New Sensation", but he can't be "Adrian"?
It's bordering on the old BLK OUT entrances, when Ruckus would be "the Jake the Snake of getting baked, the Teddy Long of hitting the bong, the Michael Hayes of getting blazed, the Vinny Mac of the dime sack, the Chris Cash of smoking hash, the AJ Styles of black & milds, the Butch Reed of that green weed, the Mean Gene of smoking green, the Michael Vick of the tai stick, and the Bruce Lee of OOOOOOOHWEEEEEEEEE". The difference being that the WWE isn't particularly self-aware regarding how ridiculous it is.

The New Sensation reeks of Vince. "Dammit how else will they know that he's new and a sensation unless we tell them that every time he's introduced?!"
In a little over 24 hours I will be attending an NXT event. Still feels surreal. Last wrestling show I went to was probably a JAPW show in 2001.
