Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
Pretty amusing that Kershaw is clearly the best pitcher in baseball and going to finish a distant 3rd in Cy Young voting.
Trout vs Donaldson is an interesting battle for MVP, it's basically even. I'd give it to Trout since him having 1 MVP out of 4years is laughably bad, if he had 3, I'd switch to Donaldson.

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
While Kershaw is the better pitcher, Jake The Snake has had the better season and probably has been the most valuable player on his team. Wouldn't you agree?

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
NL MVP = Bryce Harper (2nd Arenado, 3rd Goldschmidt)
AL MVP = Josh Donaldson (2nd Trout, 3rd Cruz)
NL CY = Jake Arrieta (if Grienke throws a gem tonight it could change things a bit)
AL CY = Dallas Keuchel
NL ROY – Kris Bryant
AL ROY – Carlos Correa

Kershaw: 220 IP, 11.5 K/9, 1.68 BB/9, 0.61 HR/9, 50.7% GBPhilaflava wrote:While Kershaw is the better pitcher, Jake The Snake has had the better season and probably has been the most valuable player on his team. Wouldn't you agree?
Arrieta: 223 IP, 9.24 K/9, 1.94 BB/9, 0.4/ HR/9, 55.7% GB
WHIP is nearly identical (Arrieta: 0.88, Kershaw: 0.91), Arrieta has an edge in ERA, Kershaw has an edge in FIP.
It's Kershaw's best season (by fWAR), for what it's worth.

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
Also, it's sort of funny that the argument that supports Donaldson's case as MVP is basically the same argument for Trout over Miggy in 2012.

Josh Donaldson 8.86
Mike Trout 8.82
I like Trout, think his glove earns him the nod. I would definitely want him to win. That said, Donaldson in his first season, not only raked but probably helped that team win their division. I just don't see how he doesn't win it.

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
eh, Miggy has always been an atrocious fielder, and pretty bad on the baserunning. Trout's defense/baserunning was inflated but he had a 4WAR edge and scaling those down some(he's a solid defender and good at baserunning) won't cover the gapKid That's Lifeless wrote:Also, it's sort of funny that the argument that supports Donaldson's case as MVP is basically the same argument for Trout over Miggy in 2012.
it wasn't Juan Gonzalez 96 bad, but it's closer to that than it is defensible Cabrera>Trout. Cabrera 2013 vs Trout 2014 is close but otherwise Trout is just a whole level above Cabrera. Cabrera is solid HoF, Trout is god-tier path with guys like Bonds, Ruth, Williams. Trout is going to have 45 career WAR when he turns 25.
Donaldson is a beast and certainly is worthy of a MVP, I just can't give him an MVP over a guy that's already been fucked out of 2 when its completely even. I'd support Co-MVP.
I guess if Trout is going to get into Bonds tier he should also have the voters give away 5 of his MVPs like they did to Bonds
Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
i'd be lying if i said i'd watched trout play a lot this year. but i watch donaldson play daily. it'd be a fucking travesty if he doesn't win it. the jays would be an average team without him.eternalreflection wrote:Pretty amusing that Kershaw is clearly the best pitcher in baseball and going to finish a distant 3rd in Cy Young voting.

as far as stats go, i'd give the edge to donaldson.
war, average, hr, stolen bases, all a wash.
trout is better with ops, walks and triples
donaldson has 22 more runs, 15 more hits, 11 more doubles, 34 more rbi, 24 less k's.
and he's been great defensively and on the base paths. he scored on a sac fly to 2b!

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
Whoever is the MVP, one thing is clear both are criminally under paid. Trout 5.2 million, Donaldson 4.3. Donaldson gets the luxury of getting fucked for 3 more years too. Trout gets fucked the next 2 and then has 3 years at a respectable 33/yr. He has the luxury of being 29 when his deal is done and he signs some 10yr/450 million deal.
No clue why Oakland traded the #3 player in baseball when they didn't have to pay him for the next 4 years.

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
Beane makes tons of good moves, but this is already one of his worst. If not the worst.
Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
Hopefully the jays do the right thing and give him a bit of a raise.eternalreflection wrote:Whoever is the MVP, one thing is clear both are criminally under paid. Trout 5.2 million, Donaldson 4.3. Re: The 2015 MLB Thread

Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
today was probably it for the Twins' chances, pretty wild run this year and a very promising future.
Re: The 2015 MLB Thread
they can do the jays a solid by finishing up the year with a win.

Yankees looked gassed. I get why they didn't want to start Ellsbury but you pay somebody 150M who's job is to get on base, you better find a way to play him.

Yankees played with no emotion. I put that on Girardi, they did not look mentally prepared to play a playoff game at all.
