Much less preachy, a little less cliche, more to unpack.
NO York > all the above and TPAB though.
Shit, I'll take the Godleebarnes tape over GKMC.

You guys overrate Blu like crazy because he reminds you of something from the the backpacker era. I don't even like Kendrick that much but I still wouldn't put Blu over him.
Agree with No York being the one to rate though.

Besides Blu, I happen to think Exile was phenomenal on this album.drizzle wrote:You guys overrate Blu like crazy because he reminds you of something from the the backpacker era. I don't even like Kendrick that much but I still wouldn't put Blu over him.

I consider Kendrick the more derivative of the two by far.drizzle wrote:You guys overrate Blu like crazy because he reminds you of something from the the backpacker era. I don't even like Kendrick that much but I still wouldn't put Blu over him.

Dude raps exactly like Eminem rapping like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. (So like everything he did after that one song on Eminem Show, right?)
Blu definitely took some cues from a number of different rappers of that era, but I think he has more of his own style.
Looking at Godleebarnes and NoYork, I dug him for being super free-form with it. Which is not something that reminds me much of the backpack era. Both jazzy yes, but in very different ways.
Ironically, Flying Lotus produced a bunch of beats on NoYork long before making TPAB w/ Kendrick.

I really didn't think there was a population of people that thought BTH was better than GKMC before this week because of PF's post here and on FB. and most of my friends are aware of BTH and Blu too. not saying BTH isn't a really good album.....just had no idea that there were a decent amount of people that loved it that much.
that photoshop is amazing.

It's not that I like BTH so much. (If memory serves, I was chastised here for saying I much preferred Godlee and NoYork.) It's that I dislike GKMC. It's a fucking after-school special bro.Gregg Popabitch wrote:I really didn't think there was a population of people that thought BTH was better than GKMC before this week because of PF's post here and on FB. and most of my friends are aware of BTH and Blu too. not saying BTH isn't a really good album.....just had no idea that there were a decent amount of people that loved it that much.

Wish I could take credit for it.

this thread is why people hate internet discussion boards
that being said- i like the cohesion and production overall on BTH more, and there may be one or two songs that I like more on BTH than anything on GKMC, but I think it's crazy to say that BTH is a better album than GKMC and/or that Blu is better than Kendrick
