No, it's because he was marketed as the saving grace of hip-hop and people bought into it. Sure his beats are fire, but his rhymes are subpar.

But America seems to think an MC who writes socially conscious lyrics is more deserving of awards then other MC's who might be ignorant as fuck but still produce better music.

Fuck the grammys, you no that Stevie Wonder has never gotten a grammy but people like Britney and all those pop whores are eatin them up. Black Eyed Peas got nominated for album of the year! wtf! So in the way of the grammys bein nothin but a award for the marketing campaigns for the major labels Kanye West deserves it.

Honestly, THIS IS THE GRAMMYS...we all know they're not the greatest judges of quality in ALL types of music (Jethro Tull vs. Metalica)....If hip-hop gets this many it can only be good...

Don't nit pick, like "so and so's album was better", this many noms for anyone is great...

The grammys should never be taken seriously, much less as a guage for how good someone's music is.

The fact is that the grammys are not voted on by fans, but rather "industry" people....that is: 50+ year old white men who think the best music ever made was classic rock. They simply don't care, and many have never even heard Kanye's album. I've seen this "voting" first hand.

i was never down with him period. he made some good beats fora while but cant rhyme for shit. he makes one song about god then everyone calls him spiritual. riiiiiiiight. still a weak ass emcee to me. and its true the grammys are nothing. they serve no purpose in the true hip hop industry
