Native Tongues Influence
I got a question for you.
You can pretty clearly see the influence of NWA and affiliates in modern mainstream hip-hop. The hyper "realism" of most rap today, the supergangsta characters that rappers project, etc.
But where is the influence of groups like De La, ATCQ, Jungle Brothers in hip-hop today? They had to influence the direction of the music somehow, they were incredibly popular and made some classic music.
I'm not coming with any preconceptions here. I really don't know. Any of you have any ideas?
Edit: and please don't say "Kanye". I mean stylistically and musically. Thanks!!

I mean, look at Slum Village. They're kind of a contiuation of that to a certain degree.
The Roots definitely derived from that whole Native Tongue movement to the point where they became a part of it.
Black Eyed Peas's earlier stuff seemed to have that feel but now they're so party oriented that its ridiculous.
Even some of the cats out now like Atmosphere, Sage Francis, and etc. seem to have been influenced by alot of the Native Tongue era if you listen to how they do their music closely.

And.....I almost forgot this one: Little Brother. They're like a big continuation of that whole movement in itself right there. All it took was just for ?uestlove to say "hey these guys are good" and now look....they're everywhere and a part of that movement.
