the story of floating weeds is a two setter. One disc has the original first film mad in the 30's, then disc two features the directors 1960's re-make of 1930's version ...Just watched the first hour of the 60's title and the movie is hilarious and beautifully done. I know the subtitles don't do the actual lines justice, but I think Criterion is a stickler for getting things done well. Gonna finish this one later on today.
Also, Stray Dogs was recommended to me by a friend who says his pops watched this movie over in Japan while being stationed out their. His pops insists that the movie is good. Hell, Kurosawa and Mifune together is a sure hit. I cant say that Ive seen any Kurosawa movies other than DREAMS that wasn't a period film dealin with ass whoopin sword play in ancient fuduel Japan. Stray Dogs is a crime thriller that takes place in post-war Japan. Mifune is a cop who gets his gun stolen and used throughout the movie to do horrible crimes. Supposedly the movie is about him trying to just get his gun back...Sounds dope as all hell. Later on im gonna get my mind right and sit down to this one cause shit sounds of the cliff...
Anyone else peep these flics? Any other Criterion joints I need to keep my eyes out for?
