Do not like. Sounds horrible. Still find it strange that Nas - someone who has never had any signs of any reggae influence in his music before - is now doing a reggae album.
Is that the same sample (Aswad 'Dub War') that Boss used on 'Deeper' ?
dope song. both come nice. only 2 verses though???
step one, nas has done reggae style before. forget the song title but he says 'me gwan fuck a fat pussy tonight'
besides the point of the album is to combine the two styles, not for nas to imitate damian marley.
btw did they switch the cover? I liked the old album cover better. It properly communicated the message of pan-africanism.

now you mention it I do vaguely remember some shit mixtape track from around 2005 (maybe called 'MC Burial' ?)where he was rhyming in a really weak Jamaican accent and dissing 50 Cent.
yeah, this record is going to do AMAZING in places not called 'America'.
fuck this shit is ILL.
y'all don't know what you're talking about. most time i'm like "yeah opinions are like assholes". but if you don't feel this... I don't know who you are
DUTTTTYNESS

The original aswad song is callled Love Fire, what you're missnaming is the dub version appropriately called Dub Fire. However in this particular case they're interpolating a Dennis Brown track called Promised Land which is based around the Love Fire riddim
I think my gripe with this is, while very dope, they switch the vibe to accomodate Nas' verse.
It feels like a mash-up more than a song that's part of a collaborative album.
Over half the album leaked now, but I've only heard 3 of the tracks. Not gonna check this, gonna wait for it to leak, because I can't see it being too long away..

I'm on the same tip. Only songs I have heard are As We Enter and Friends. That Friends song is so dope to me.
Damn, I caved, I had to listen to Friends after those comments. Great song. All but 4 songs from this leaked. This album is destined to fail though. People are wanting an album filled with songs like Road To Zion, but they aren't going to get it. I'm liking what I heard so far though. I know most will probably disagree, but these tracks would sound better if they were Damian Marley solo records..
yo vermillion, i agree that marley sounds better than nas on most of these joints, but these songs are way better than marely's solo work. they have a more typical reggae vibe and no autotune.
EARLY MORNING CLASS OF YOGA AT THE BEACH IN SENEGAL
I broke down and listened to the 9 songs that have leaked. This album is going to be something special. If all the fag hip hop nerds who occupy the internet boards and herbs who think they know everything about Hip Hop could open their minds for once, they might just be surprised by how nice this music really is. Nas stays making great music man. Nas is just a true artist. Of course he has his flaws, but I love this dude man. I don't see any other artist of his stature ever taking the risks he takes and they never are as creative and personal.
Everyone has opinions on music and it is subjective but I am really feeling these tunes and find it hard to believe people don't like this shit or at the very least appreciate the artistry.
That being said, I do not know what the replay value of these tracks will ultimately be. My guess is it will be 50/50 on that end.
Either way, I am looking forward to new Nas material, esp if Tip, Pete Rock, Kanye and others are involved. I hope he really lets Tip be involved in the creation of his next album beyond just producing a track. Tip always got it going on and just knows how to make good music. If I was a label I would be hiring that dude over and over to A&R projects.

If you'd been making music your entire life and got the opportunity to work with the talented son of one of the world's best musicians, wouldn't you do it? I'm sure he's been listening and appreciating Bob's music since he was a jit. Not strange at all, tbh.

Also, correction: In this interview, at 20:46, Fat Joe mentions Nas once busting a freestyle in the club alongside Biggie, and apparently being "on some jamaican shit" about bumbaclots.
Really though, this is the whole off-the-wall, "back-to-Africa" shit that he's been on all these years REALLY happening. For him to also go on a musical journey with it makes sense.
