list is mostly on point, but the actual writeups are the money shots, some really funny stuff
they could've maybe found something else for 20 though. black keys put out some legitimately good stuff and were never really popular on the hipster scene
Got to the third page. Pretty fucking awful. Descriptions read as though they were informed by a quick skim of the band's Wikipedia page so they could have specific references.
1. Bon Iver
"But the melodies! The harmonies!" You protest. Sorry, but it's time to admit that Bon Iver is the sonic equivalent of an empty canvas totebag. Worse, the Justin Vernon-fronted act is wholly indicative of our musical fall from grace. What happened to us as a generation that this guy gets to bear our sonic torch? Those who came before us rocked, bumped and grinded. They exuded raw sexuality and riotous anger; sweaty human realism. They hoovered drugs or angrily rejected them, they humped strangers in club bathrooms in adolescent indiscretion; they broke shit, laughed, cried, partied on rooftops or in warehouses, exorcised cultural demons and personal failures, made spectacles. We, instead, get a whiny guy who built his own studio in the woods; perfectly exemplifying that narcissistic hipster ethos of "Whatever man, I'm just gonna go over here and be chill, I don't want to be bothered or have my mellow harshed." Bon Iver coos the celebratory ballads of hip poseurs who refuse to get their hands dirty, that is, unless that filth is quaint and photogenic. -Paul T. Bradley

lol @ the ironing.
if there's a hipster band in the world it's the black keys dude
well here's the thing, is the hipsterness defined by band members or band fans?
if modern hipsters ever existed, those 2 dudes are definitely it. the beards, the flannels, fascination with mimicking authenticity - they're it. but their following, in recent years especially (since they really broke through), is not actually very hipsterish. they never generated the kind of hype that other indy rock bands named on the list had. that's what i was referring to
yeah black keys are easily one of the most popular bands on that list. But they also are loved as much by the nonhipster crowd.
Saw them in AC this summer and was surprised how preppy the crowd was.
Wavves/Sleigh Bells are too good to be on this list as well.
I'm only a fan of about 5 of these bands, but I don't dislike or have any problem with the rest. What's annoying is the use of the "hipster" label to group bands together that sound nothing alike.
eh.. no silver jews or pavement?.. i thought those were near the top of hipster bands.. in terms of the ones i hate anyway.. yo la tengo anyone? now that i'm re reading that list some pretty good ones on there though.. i didn't think black keys was hipster at all though but i've never listened to them so.. who knows?!?! out of all of these i've literally only listened to that fun song that's on the radio all the time off this list and that's it .. also le pamplomousse from the 70s.. is that like pete rock calling his album main ingredient..
black flag or black keys gotta be sitting on top of the list
or beach house or beach fossils
or sparklehorse
or horse feathers
or wolf parade maybe wolf dick
probably the cash cows
taht whole shit and their other lists are pretentious crap. serious question because I am probably not able to determine this from wehre im at at the moment: is this site some kind of authority/tastemaker in today's musical journalism?
The most hipster people I know are the ones that make fun of hipsters or make lists of the most hipster bands. WHO THE FUCK CARES? These bands all make good tunes and you're probably wearing flannel or wearing ya mom's jeans size.. I don't give a fuck!!
Hipster this, hipster that, blah blah gay sex blah blah congress

Felt the same way shooting up at a sublime show in B-more 13 years ago. Had a few friends who I called a bundle of sticks for listening to the decemberists back then also. I don't know any of these other bands though, should I? Because if they are 19 better than the keyes I might as well slap'em on the pod.

i'm not but it's sort of dumb the same. how do you think 'The 10 Worst Hipster Rappers: The Complete List' would go over in M2C??
10. Action Bronson
09. Mr. M'Fing eXquire
08. El-P
07. Spaceghostpurrp
06. Main Attrakionz
05. A$AP Rocky
04. Tyler The Creator

01. Lil B "The Based God"
The Black Keys, MGMT, The Decemberists, and Bon Iver are young dad rock.
Death Cab For Cutie and The Airborne Toxic Event make music for 45 year old librarians and Dids. I don't think anybody "hip" has ever liked either of them.
The rest were pitchfork bands in 2007. Using the word "hipster" as an adjective for a specific kind of music is outdated as using the word "mainstream" to describe some rap music. Arcade Fires wins grammys and sells out MSG and puts their music in Katherine Heigel rom coms.
