Thanks for this.
Thread stickied.
Hopefully the few cats that are into this stuff who post at Rick Rubin, will check this and bless us.
And anybody else at T.R.O.Y. who got some bangers that you think we would appreciate, please :upload:

I will try to upload some of my favorite albums, from obscure to known, at least two a week.
Let's make this happen.

My favorite is the last track, it's what Salaam Remi sampled for without a doubt.

a couple of ancient threads for the newer posters, with the assumption that since this is troy we should be looking at older/more classic stuff (as opposed to newer releases)

these great threads should still have active links

Another thread you should check if you like Jazz with that rhodes sound.
The sample for Heltah Skeltah's "Understand" is on the first album uploaded by Random Sample here-

Alright, fellas. Moving right along into a Funk Soul classic that you should know at least one track from.
"We The People" was often used as a break record for b-boys and girls to get their boogie on to.
Great, great, song. Classic soul, IMO.
But, besides that, mostly the whole album is really dope.

I would say Funk and Soul with a Jazz type tinge to it.
This was a holy grail to me for awhile, before my internetting days.
It probably goes for about $50-$75 mint, which doesn't sound like alot, but fuck you, it is to me.

The Soul Searchers went on to create that D.C. go go sound that I believe was realized completely on the "Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers - Bustin' Loose" album.
They only had 1 other album between these two as just The Soul Searchers called "Salt Of The Earth", which I'll upload soon.

01 - We The People
02 - Your Love Is So Doggone Good
03 - It's All In Your Mind
04 - Soul To The People
05 - Think
06 - 1993
07 - When Will My Eyes See
08 - Blowout

Three samples if you need any convincing-

BTW- Soon, I'll try to make a list of dope funk, soul, and jazz blogs that you would like or that I have gotten stuff from.
I hate to upload something without mentioning the og uploader because I forgot, so I figure I could at least do that.

02. The Robbery And The Chase
03. Exercise Run
04. Girl, Girl,Girl (Sonny And Virginia)
05. Daydreams
06. The Rumble
07. Funeral Parlor
08. Please Be There
09. Flashbulbs
10. Father And Son
11. The Junkies
12. A New Direction
13. End Title (Sonny's Theme)

This isn't one of my favorite soundtracks, I just wanted to get it out the way.
Don't get me wrong, though, there's tracks on here and samples, if you make beats.
And it's a great movie.
Dusty Groove America wrote:A really wonderful soundtrack, with a mixture of great mellow soul songs with
vocals by Leon Ware, and some jazzier tunes that have a much more
spacious and sophisticated approach than the usual soundtrack of this type!
That doesn't mean that the tracks aren't funky, though -- because there's
plenty of tight funky tunes on the record -- they're just funky in a way that's
really fresh, with some great orchestrations and very nicely complicated
grooves!
Track 2 - The Robbery and the Chase contains the sample for Shabazz The Disciple's "Crime Saga" and if I'm not mistaken, a sample from Edo.G's Pete Rock produced "Situations". Check here-
http://philaflava.blogspot.com/2008/10/ ... ion-3.html
This track has the sample for one of the only real bangers, IMO, off of Pete Rocks Ny's Finest album-
03. Exercise Run

Dope thread. Heres my contribution. The Fish that saved Pittsburgh, dope soundtrack from a 70s basketball film which featured some serious soul and funk talent. Theres a good few tracks on here that have dope samples and all of them are pretty good listens. Its a really rare piece of vinyl so if you see it grab it. Composer Thom Bell orchestrated truly one of the best soundtracks of all-time.

1. A Theme For L.A.'s Team (04:07)
Thom Bell Orchestra featuring Doc Severinsen
2. Magic Mona (03:24)
Phyllis Hyman
3. Mighty Mighty Pisces (03:48)
The Sylvers
4. (Do It, Do It) No One Does It Better (04:05)
The Spinners
5. The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh (03:28)
Bell & James
6. Moses Theme (04:32)
Frankie Bleu
7. Chance Of A Lifetime (05:00)
The Four Tops
8. Follow Every Dream (04:11)
William Hart
9. Ragtime (01:18)
Eubie Blake, Thom Bell
10. Is It Love, Must Be Love (04:57)
Loretta Lynn, Frankie Bleu

Thanks sajr.
For some reason, I remember the name of that movie from maybe seeing it when I was a kid or something.
I had no idea about a soundtrack, though. Good find.

The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh has mad samples that you all know the hip
hop songs for on there. I can't believe out of all the soundtracks I've peeped
through the years, this one and I never crossed paths before. "Funky
Child", and a million other songs, horns on there. Thanks for that.

And that La Planete Savauge soundtrack, yeah, that shit is a must have.
At least one cut was on a Dusty Fingers or some kind of break record.
Sample for Beatnuts produced Rawcotiks cut, "Magic Chef" on there and others.
And, man, this shit is just waiting for more producers to devour.
I hope nobody sleeps on that one.

Jigsaw, I didn't realize you were that Dust 2 Dust cat. Props. I'm pretty
sure I've gotten dope shit over there. Bookmarking right now.
I see you have a Michael Urbaniak album there, which reminds of this really dope break record I used to have.
He had a joint on it, the comp was called "Space Breaks". Let me know if you have any info on that. Thanks.

Good looks.. I started the blog to keep this new generation up on where it all started from. Most these younglings now dig in the "E" crates. So might as well make sure they do it right. A lot of the basics type shit with some gems thrown in here and there.

I never heard of the Space breraks comp. If you got s anippet of the track I may be able to name it. I have about 10 Urbaniak lps. I was a fan before Qtip raped the steve biko..

04 - Cold Turkey
05 - Soul of Black Folks

Cold Turkey- http://www.zshare.net/audio/624165237768a9cb/

Download CD re-issue- http://sharebee.com/f9605443
GrooveCollector.com wrote:Killer funk lp, sublime spiritual funk album, includes famous "vibe-ing theme".
A righteous underground soul classic from Del Jones like works by M.J.
Kirkland, Oneness Of Juju, The Pharoahs...with hard themes of African-
American life. Some great arrangements, lot of fuzzy funky guitars & jazzed-
up grooving rhythm.
I've seen this listed as 1970 and 1972. I think 72 is correct.
I've never seen an original pressing, I got a pretty good quality vinyl re-issue.
It's actually such a good re-issue, I thought it was an og for a second when I copped it, until I saw the price.

Didn't feel like ripping, which is good because apparently this was re-
issued on CD with 2 bonus tracks- "Big Feet" and "Afro Funkisms".
The latter of which, as the title implies, is pretty afro funky.
