Operation: Stackola or Coast II Coast?
Two albums that have nothing to do with each other except the fact that they're West Coast records released in 1995.
Which album? Why?
"Coast II Coast" gets points for being a very dope yet concise record and "DAAAM!."
"Operation: Stackola" is a little longer and thus has more filler but has a grip of underrated bangers like "Yellow Brick Road," "Put The Lead On Ya," "So Much Drama," and of course, "I Got 5 On It."
For me it's a tough choice but ultimately I gotta go with "Coast II Coast" because I enjoy the vibe a lot more and each 'Lik fucking kills it. Plus "2014" is a personal favorite and tin-foil hat anthem.

Coast II Coast
As much as I like that Luniz album, its starting to sound a little dated. That Liks album is still incredibly fresh (with the exception of maybe 2 tracks). I was always pissed that they never included the actual song "Coast II Coast" (off the Friday soundtrack). Easily one of their best songs ever.

Prepare yourself now for the six man wedding!
Well, whoever likes the Luniz, get ready to hate and dis me.
Straight up and down, I never even gave the "Luniz" a chance. When "I Got
5 On It" came out, it dominated the airwaves, was played 40 times a day on
all major stations, and was played the fuck out with the quickness.
I liked the beat, but kinda thought the lyrics and song itself reaked of 'we
gotta appeal to this weed craze and make a hit off of it'.
I saw them as one hit wonders and never even bothered to peep their album.
Plus I was hating the RnB hooks at the time, begging for radio play ole bullshit.
I should listen to the album before voting, but if I can't stand "I gOt 5 On It",
I doubt the album is gonna change my mind. I really doubted back then that
this crew would ever be talked about in the future.

as much as I love '5 On It' I was never really feeling much else on the album (and I was bumping a lof of West Coast shit back then)
Been playing 'The Next Level' alot recently and '2014' never gets old'
'Coolin out with yo bitch eatin sweet and sour chicken' >>>>
I seem to remember a Liks tune that as far as I know wasnt released on an album and might have been promo only. It was possibly a remix of 'Let It All Out', maybe called 'Relieve Yourself'.
I've got a feeling I only ever heard it as a blend though.
anyone help me out on this?

"Relieve Yourself" was the b-side of the Maryjane vinyl and also in the
beginning of the "Maryjane" video.

If that's what you're talking about, I could rip it for you probably tonight
sometime.
Maryjane Remix is PHENOMENAL, imo.
I swore I saw the remix beat over the video once on Rap City, but I've
still never seen it since back then, so maybe I'm wrong.

And wow, I'm just waaaay off from everybody else in this thread about
EVERYTHING.
"2014" was probably one of the only joints I actually skipped on this album.
"Read My Lips", "Let IT All Out", "21 And Over"(sounded like a straight
Beatnuts beat), "Hit And Run"(amazing beat, imo), and of course the og and
remixes of "Daaamn!" and "Next Level", were all my joints from this album.

I've remained ignorant to a LOT of hip hop through my life becauseEcho Leader wrote:Verge wrote: "2014" was probably one of the only joints I actually skipped on this album.
Dude, it's Road Warrior rap music. Fucking radical, bro.
of the bias.
I went to re-listen after I seen people mentioning it in this thread, and
shut it off immediately when I heard that beep sample sound.
But, I just finally listened right now.. good story rhymes that definitely fit
in on this album. Matter fact, it's a real ill story telling joint. Reminds me of
the Cella Dwellas, Masta Ace, Lord Digga - "4 Da Mind" story wise.
If I can't trust T.R.O.Y. forumers taste, then shiiiiit, I dunno.
I seriously never listened to this song until right now and I probably
know most of the lyrics to the rest of the album by heart. Amazing what
a little 3 second sample can do. Lol

It really is an ill story-telling joint. Not something that you come to expect from Tha Liks but it's dope nonetheless.Verge wrote:I've remained ignorant to a LOT of hip hop through my life becauseEcho Leader wrote:Verge wrote: "2014" was probably one of the only joints I actually skipped on this album.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm drunk and listening to a Drez blend of Jeru's verse from "1,2, Pass It" and the instrumental of Akbar's "Those Who Say." My mind is fucking melting.
I can't even picture those two matching IN MY MIND.
Lol, That shit must be crazy.
I better go check those Drez mixes out already.
I think I only peeped one so far.

that was played a lot on this one mix show I used to listen to on Kiss FM but I never seem to come across much Liks stuff when Im out digging.
I got told the Next Level 12" is hard to find because they couldnt repress itdue to the sample that was used or something.

I always though "2014" was just a misprint or something?Echo Leader wrote:Verge wrote: "2014" was probably one of the only joints I actually skipped on this album.

In the first line J-Ro says "The year is 2004, people talk about war..."
...Plus I don't remember any other lines on the song mentioning 2014. Anyone know if it was a misprint and was supposed to say "2004"?
