No doubt B.E.BrandanEvans wrote:i hope yall know that these classic vintage Hip-Hop mags are like hip-hop collectors items. u can show these joints to ur kids and grandkids to let them see how hip-hop was back then!
i still kept all my old Source, XXL, Vibe mags from the 90s!
Not right now though, as the 2 year old in my life rips up every god-damn piece of paper he touches [hides all mags]. You got a scanner ? Dont hesitate...
Here's some more ad business from 1990, dont forget to circle that readers response card !
Peep the 'mandatory listening' spiel on the Brand Nubian ad, classic throwback marketing...
I've been overseas for a month, so been a bit slack with the wordtothemother.tumblr.com blog, but had sorted a bunch of drafts prior to going away, and have been trying to post something of interest every couple of days.

what's good fams, if you're looking for wild source scans peep sourpowered.com i have a ton of old 90's ish on there.
the archives used to run 2 years deep but when i switched the site over to tumblr earlier this year i lost everything so there's not much there now, but there will be a ton more in the future.
the homie from thimk fathered all this rap magazine scanning, his blog was (and still is) the most official shit out.

I remember seeing that Cool J cover of the Source in a later issue when they did a double-spread layout of many early issues. It's nice to finally be able to read that interview, thanks Irish Craig!

Bobbito's monthly column in Quincy Jones' VIBE magazine lasted more than a decade, from '94 'til '06. It was entitled Sound Check, though it initially started off as The Blindfold Test, an idea taken from Down Beat magazine.
Doug E. Fresh, The Large Professor, Q-Tip, Rosie Perez, Special Ed, Patra, Crazy Legs (of The Rock Steady Crew), Diamond D, Dionne Farris, Simon LeBon (of Duran Duran), N-Bushe Wright, Raekwon, Yo Yo, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Roberta Flack, Russell Simmons, Amel Larrieux (of Groove Theory), Keith Sweat, Lee Quinones, Gil Scott-Heron, Buckshot, Tony Bennett, Abiodun Oyewole (of The Last Poets), Chuck Brown (of The Soul Searchers), Angie Martinez, Ziggy Marley, Michael Jordan, Michael Bolton, Todd Oldham, Kid Capri, Rosario Dawson, Gloria Estefan, DJ Funkmaster Flex, Scary Spice, George Clinton, Kobe Bryant, Jewel, Kool Keith, Mystikal, Wesley Snipes, Coko (of SWV), Quincy Jones, Flavor Flav, Nipsey Russell, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Andy Hilfiger, Michael Rapaport, Snoop Dogg & Tha Eastsidaz, Donell Jones, Beenie Man, Guru, Cypress Hill, Too Short, Sin
Here's the list of guests from the one hundred and twenty four issues I've collected already (feel free to add on):Bobbito Garcia wrote:"...I was a writer at large for VIBE. The column was called Sound Check. I did that for about ten years...I interviewed Isaac Hayes...Gil Scot-Heron, Michael Jordan, and Quincy Jones, basically some of the most famous people in the world and play[ed] music for them. I think that was instrumental in allowing people to accept me as a DJ that played a lot of rare music, because I showcased that in my column and would share it in my club sets. People would be like, oh yo that's the joint, I never heard about it but I read it about in your column when you interviewed Rosie Perez. So that opened up a lot of doors and I'm very grateful to the publication." ~ Bobbito Garcia (for the Examiner in '09)
