two incredible classics that has earned a place in any serious hip-hop fiends collection. as much as i love Diamond D's debut I have to go with "Runaway Slave" here, everything from the beats and rhymes to the guest verses, the interludes and the jazzy digging vibe of the project makes it one of my favorite albums of all time. definitely top 10!

This is one I'll have to marinate on. Both got an insane amount of replay for me, both in my opinion are classics.. Gonna have to give them both thorough front to back listens this weekend before voting. I may already be leaning towards Runaway Slave though just because there's a couple of joints on Diamond's that I never really dug, might be a higher highs lower lows type deal. Not sure yet though.

A lot of borks are terrified of the racial politics of the former and tickled pink by the carefree subject matter of the latter.Jaz wrote:I see a lot of comments about Runaway Slave but Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop is in the lead...
I can see Diamond D's "on and on like popcorn" as being an anodyne much like Busta Rhymes' "raaah raaah like a Dungeon Dragon" capable of bringing a smile to the existentially wary face of even the hardest beret-clad cafe-frequenter of the Left Bank.
ah,so thats why white Europeans dont listen to Public Enemy then.Thun wrote:

Yeah I expounded on the joke above, so it isn't quite so clever for you to refer to a previous iteration. Faggot.step one wrote:ah,so thats why white Europeans dont listen to Public Enemy then.Thun wrote:

Pretty much. Runaway Slave is a bit close to the bone for me.Thun wrote:A lot of borks are terrified of the racial politics of the former and tickled pink by the carefree subject matter of the latter.
I can relate to Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop more. Observations such as young people in cinemas talking all loud, telling all the good parts, while I sit there praying to myself "please I hope they don't start", and have to get a member of staff to eject them.

lord knows ive tried...but i just dont see the massive appeal of runaway slave...the singles are all classics but most of the rest of the album drags and kinda sounds like one long song after a while...its by no means a bad record but its nowhere near classic to me
stunts on the other hand is right in my wheelhouse and one of my favorite albums of all time...the samples on it are incredible and it has a ridiculous amount of great songs...sure its too long and at times is all over the place but the amount of top notch material on it rivals any album

Nah, it's because I wrote an essay on a Das Efx b-side and I like Grand Puba's verse on "Step To The Rear."step one wrote:So sensitive. Yeah, what kind of teenage dj would want to play at one of the most famous clubs in nyc?Thun wrote:step one wrote: I earnestly and embarassingly relate my boyhood wet dreams of DJ'ing at the Tunnel

What was your goal when you were a teen? Find some real life friends?

I know I might seem like a hypocrite here, but less poster/mod baiting and more discussion please...I am still shocked at clark bent's view on Runaway Slave.step one wrote:Yeah, what kind of teenage dj would want to play at one of the most famous clubs in nyc?Thun wrote:step one wrote: I earnestly and embarassingly relate my boyhood wet dreams of DJ'ing at the Tunnel

I voted for Runaway Slave, 2 tracks I didn't really like on Stunts, Blunts...were "Confused" and "Pass Dat Shit"
I loved everything on R.S.
