Pick Your Favorite Director
Not asking for who you think is the the best or the most prolific - just your favorite. I know this might be difficult.

Spike Lee

Re: Pick Your Favorite Director
Carpenter, whose catalog could go toe to toe with almost anyone
Big Trouble in Little China
They Live
The Thing (finest horror/sci-fi movie ever made)
Halloween
Assault on Precinct 13
Escape from NY
Scorsese is obviously better, but he's going to win this. Cameron would be closer if Titanic is your cut off-point...

Re: Pick Your Favorite Director
Spike Lee (even though I think he is an insufferable, ahistorical, reactionary weirdo-douchebag)

Re: Pick Your Favorite Director
Tough to pick between Carpenter, Scorsese and Cronenberg.
But since its favorite I also have to ride with Carpenter, most rewatchable catalog of anyone listed probably.

Top ten movie for me.admiral wrote: The Thing (finest horror/sci-fi movie ever made)

John Hughes has made more stuff I think I've been able to re-watch. Voted for him.
Speaking of directors, what do you guys think about Robert Zemeckis?

^^ ruled the 80s and probably deserves a big share of credit (or infamy depending on how you look at things) for ushering in the age of blockbusters but since then has had a really hard time balancing crowd-pleasing populism with pure schmaltz

Re: Pick Your Favorite Director
Pretty easy to predict the outcome of these polls. This board loves movies/TV shows with...
-a singular male protagonist forced to be an anti-hero badass
-copious amounts of violence
-a style that's in-your-face, easily identifiable, and obvious -- borderline gimmicky
Whatever director (or movie or show) most closely fits that description will always win. In this case, that also happens to be the best director listed.
Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver... unfuckwithable.
Spike Lee would be next for me, but he's had such a horrible run for the last 10 years it's hard to even consider him for the top spot.

Re: Pick Your Favorite Director
Based off how often I watch their films rather than influence/ability or whatever I really wanna say Carpenter but tbh I watch blues bros/American werewolf regularly so being real I'd have to say Landis.
Re: Pick Your Favorite Director
I feel like I've betrayed Landis now.
