Re: Roots x Elvis Costello
By 1979, America was finally warming up to the idea of minorities, even to the point of frowning upon people using racial slurs when referring to them. Elvis Costello, however, was British, which apparently meant he had no fucking idea. While intoxicated at a Holiday Inn bar, he referred to Ray Charles as a "blind, ignorant nigger" and James Brown as a "jive-ass nigger."

If I had a dollar for every times said he word "nigger" when drunk at a Holiday Inn bar, I would have funded this album myself. Then followed it up with the Michael Bolton/Project Pat double LP I have in my head. Chill.

Whatever though...hopefully the record's good.
Costello has built a career of boldly trying new musical directions.

Re: Roots x Elvis Costello
Do you like Elvis Costello?
If you don't like Elvis Costello, you probably aren't going to like an Elvis Costello album.
But its the best thing he's done in quite some time.
