Re: RIP Malik B of the Roots
Very sad news. I'm still processing it. I spoke with my cousin briefly about Malik as soon as I heard the news. She attended Millersville University with Malik and used to call me (remember payphones and calling cards?) talking about their fun times goofing off at school back in '91. We are all literally the same age so it hurts more when your peers pass away unexpectedly. Life is too short. Tell your family, friends, and favorite hip-hop artists that you appreciate them while they can still hear you.
Weird fact - I think Malik is the only "original" Roots member that I never personally met. I have bumped into Black Thought, 'Brother Question' (not Questlove), Kamal, and Hub at restaurants, markets, and movie theaters in Philly and spoken with them but Malik was the only one I never had a chance to meet and speak with.
