I'm actually kind of surprised to read this from you, as this is very much a default limousine liberal type of opinion.Combo7 wrote:
Even if you don't give a shit about the gay community, I'd argue that using "faggot" or "gay" to express your thoughts generally makes you sound immature and unintelligent, and should be avoided for at least those reasons.
I'd say that giving a shit about the gay community is (potentially) a legitimate reason to abstain and denounce the use of the word "Faggot" which if I'm not mistaken is originally a reference to how homosexuals were set aflame in 16th century England, like bundles of sticks used for kindling (the original definition of faggot).
Not saying it because the wealthy widower in the next apartment might clutch her pearls in mock horror? I dunno.

i'd like to see a bit more than purely anecdotal evidence but a truth to it wouldn't be too surprising. there's a much stronger cultural homogeneity over there compared to here, and homophobia is one of those traditions that gets passed down all too easily. my grandpops actually marched in an anti-gay rally decades ago though he's since grown much more accepting. Whereas here someone spouting truly hateful shit gets shamed by the larger majority, down there it gets tossed around much more loosely and even from the women, although i haven't heard too much evidence of rhetoric translating in to violence. you don't need to be too insightful to know sexuality plays a strong role in the latino identity.Thun wrote:According to friends and associates of mine who are recent immigrants to the US, violent attacks on lesbians are supposedly on the rise in Latin America and in still-insular latino immigrant communities in the States, where their effrontery to macho posturing and catcalling is considered the gravest offense. And it's gotten to the point where simply disinterested women have been attacked under the assumption that they are lesbians.
racism is another beast entirely, especially with those ethpa

To me, it's like a white person saying the n-word. Regardless of context, it just sounds foolish (exceptions would be in discussions of the word itself (and even then I don't see anything wrong with subbing "n-word" for the word) or if the word is part of a passage being quoted).

also, if more people jump on the tegan & sara tip, it will be interesting to see if this adult swim/cartoon network thing folds.

I don't see Earl having any problems being successful without OF. Especially since he seems like he's not only super talented, but also really smart and good a making decisions on his own.
As soon as he wants to come back he'll have people throwing dope beats at him immediately and be offered a deal with the quickness if he shows that he's still dope.

blowing up on a national/international level for rhymes about rape and sodomy seems pretty extreme too, no? I don't have kids, but I would think twice about letting a 16 year-old ride that wave to stardom.Dids wrote:Before we totally put the stop on "Fuck Earl's Mom"- without knowing what he did, shipping your kid off another country seems like a pretty fucking extreme reaction and some pretty bullshit parenting.
Especially if I was well aware of how talented the kid was and that this wasn't the only way for him to ever achieve success or live out his dreams.
What's stopping Earl from pulling a Jay Electronica at age 34? nothing really.

I'd be more worried about the swastikas in the Bastard video becoming a thing.sean wrote:rendered.drizzle wrote:well it does kinda rhyme with edwardGyangsta 4 Life wrote:plus it doesn't rhyme with anything

In speaking with Professor Thun today, I think we both came to the conclusion that Earl will probably never release another track with or without OF anytime soon, possibly never. He isn't at all determined to create some career or internet mystique like Tyler. Earl is the new Brewin with much less material.
Also faggot is a funny word, but I prefer to use sissy, mary, queer or Icesickle if need be.

Sure, but there's a myriad of less extreme solutions before you send your child away from you. (and maybe she tried those, who knows, but based on imperfect information, it at least makes you wonder)DLG wrote:blowing up on a national/international level for rhymes about rape and sodomy seems pretty extreme too, no? If they do, they're idiots. You can tell, even from the super small sample size, that Earl's one of those doesn't-come-wack emcees. If he can't still come up with shit that's dope, he'll find something else to do. I didn't see anyone hating on his earlier backpackerish material, and his talent gives him the best chance at sustaining a long term career in rap...if that's what he chooses. The Afronaut wrote:Watch how fast motherfuckers flip on dude if he's not rapping about the same shit when he returns, talent or not.DLG wrote:I don't see Earl having any problems being successful without OF.

Shit is getting serious up in here.
I think a big part of that is because it is guys committing most of the violent hate crimes, but it is basically ingrained in us from the time we can walk that we aren't supposed to hit a woman. So even though there is a lot of prejudice against lesbians from both sexes, it doesn't escalate enough to make it in the news often, at least in the U.S. And let's face it, the easy availability of girl on girl porn on the internet has to help in some way . I had a good friend from my neighborhood that came out senior year of highschool, and I saw a lot of prejudice she dealt with.COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:Fair enough...for the record though:sean wrote:well i'm not trying to limit your friends' right to complain.COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:I just had to speak up for my lesbian friends who claim they get it worse than the gay penis holders do...
this is still america. we all have membership cards to the bleeding hearts club.
and don't get me wrong, gay women are persecuted as well.
but it's not too often that you hear about lesbians catching critical beat downs for being lesbians.

And this might be relevant, or perhaps even the reverse:

If I had a 16 year old kid making songs about rape, assmilk, and nazi's, I would lock their ass up (get them help), no matter how many Youtube hits their video got.Dids wrote:Sure, but there's a myriad of less extreme solutions before you send your child away from you. shut up, FAgGOTBlockhead wrote:I fully understand the argument against using the word "Faggot" and , really, I can't make a case for it beyond the weak "it's just a word" viewpoint, but it is a bummer cause it's a really great word.
Calling something or someone a faggot , when in no way referring to sexual orientation, is really fun. But I don't have to tell any of you guys that.
