Billy Joel Appreciation Thread
Iגm anticipating the גJewy fratboyג comments to sling left and right, but there arenגt many artists whos music remains relevant 20-30 years later.
Billy Joel is one of the greatest musicians of all-time. Yes, truth, all truth.
His catalog is on another level. His music is ageless and heגs still a great performer. Give it up for Billy, the man is banginג a 19 year old slore for christ sakes.

My house burned down when I was 3 as has been recently and in the past mentioned. All the records my parents owned = gone. To this day my dad has been slightly disenchanted as a music listener ever since it happened.
When I was around 8 or so my parents bought a stereo system for the living room. Bose, surround sound. They bought some CDs, but not very many. Bonnie Raitt, Gershwin, R.E.M., Vivaldi, Marsalis, and Mozart were of the line-up. Also, Billy Joel's Greatest Hits. No Beatles, Stones, Dylan....none of it.
I don't have any music memories before the purchase of that stereo. So from my own recollection, what my parents bought was all I had to listen to as a child. Maybe the R.E.M. on occasion (it was Out Of Time), but otherwise, I was rockin Volume 2 of the Billy Joel every day after school. I had a routine for each song. Volume 1 too, but I never really got into "Captain Jack" at that age (perhaps it was for the better, seeing as the song is all about drugs, murder, and masturbation).
"Goodnight Saigon" was my epic number.

My aunt's claim to fame is that she went out on a date with Will in high school. I think I am old enough to finally ask if she jerked him off.
The "little Italian restaurant" he sings about in Bottle of Red is Christiano's in Syosset, right across from the LIRR. They have the best pizza on the island.
He is the man.

appreciated for sure.
i knew songs like 'uptown girl' from my pops growing up, but my girl is the one who really hipped me...
we went to 'movin' out', the play where a guy is covering billy joel songs (really, really well...you'd think it wouldn't work, but he was excellent) and an orchestra is playing while the play was going on...basically, there was 10 songs per act, 2 acts, and the songs were arranged to tell a story, and they were acting it out on stage...
captain jack is goosebump worthy.
the piano man...jesus. 'and he's quick with a joke, and to light up your smoke, but there's someplace that he'd rather beeeee...'
one of the best writers of all time, easily.
